Harry Potter fans stateside have been able to live out their biggest Potter fantasies in two U.S. locations: Orlando, Florida and Hollywood, California. Fans living in the northeast had to hope on a plane in order to enjoy a bit of the magical world, but no more.
In June 2021, the first Harry Potter flagship store will open in New York City’s Flatiron District. The store will take up 21,000 square feet and take up three floors and will “house the largest collection of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts products under one roof.” One of the store’s features that fans are most excited about is the brand new Butterbeer Bar.
While officially sanctioned Butterbeer is not a new phenomenon (it’s been available at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London as well as the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at all Universal Parks & Resorts locations), this will be the first time Butterbeer will be available in the Big Apple. The actual bar is meant to be quite impressive as well.
The store’s official announcement described: “Once inside the Butterbeer Bar, fans will be greeted by a giant cascade of glowing Butterbeer bottles. Nearly 1,000 bottles will rise from the floor and ‘float’ over the bar as Butterbeer moves magically across the ceiling through copper pipes. Witches, wizards, Muggles and No-maj’s alike are invited to enjoy a frothy cup of Butterbeer served in souvenir tankard, a refreshing Butterbeer ice cream or freshly poured bottled Butterbeer as well as range of wizarding world inspired treats.”
The new Harry Potter Store New York will also sell bottled versions of Butterbeer. The bottled beverage is made in the United Kingdom and features the beloved butterscotch flavor concocted out of a “unique blend of top-secret ingredients.”
The new Butterbeer will come with a shiny new label that is exclusive to the store. The label is created by design duo MinaLima and was inspired by the Magical Congress of the United States of America from the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise. The store describes the label as: “Designed in rich reds, whites and blues reminiscent of the US flag, the collectible label features the MACUSA and Butterbeer insignias.” That’s great news for fans who love collectables!
The New York City Harry Potter store will also feature a grand wand shop where you can let the wand choose you, endless Quidditch merch, plushies of your favorite magical creatures, and plenty of figurines. You’ll also be able to try out two virtual reality experiences one called “Chaos at Hogwarts” and the second called “Wizards Take Flight.”
Upon entering the store, fans will be greeted by a giant Fawkes the Phoenix statue that gazes down from the ceiling. There will also be brand collaborations with companies like Spirit Jerseys, Loungefly handbags, Pottery Barn, and more.
