Is there anything that Giada de Laurentiis can’t do? The TV personality has opened restaurants, published a series of books, and released her a cookware line — all while filming multiple TV shows. There is no doubt that she is one of the most talented and successful chefs in the world. However, despite it all, she shares that she was still nervous when she had to create a meal for Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011.
Giada opened up in an interview with INSIDER and shared her feelings of anxiety that she experienced while preparing for the polo charity event in Santa Barbara. Apparently, she was only informed of the royal couple’s appearance after she had agreed to cater the event!
Then, on top of that, she wasn’t even allowed to talk about it with anybody. She said, “I had no idea the royal couple would be attending. And when I finally found out, it was actually kind of a bummer. I couldn’t tell anyone—I had to keep it hush-hush until their California itinerary was released.”
She said that she felt quite nervous leading up to the event but she was also very excited. She and her daughter loved following their story and the royal watched their wedding together. She continued: “I’m not usually star-struck, but I’ll admit I was pretty anxious meeting them. It was nerve-wracking cooking a meal for actual royalty, but I kept reminding myself that I was in my element.”
So just what do you prepare for the royal couple? Naturally, Giada stayed true to her Italian roots and incorporated a California-flair to the meal, as this would be the first time Prince William and Kate would be visiting the state. She shared that she created “very colorful” dishes using “fresh, organic ingredients” for the summer event. The meal included a California chopped salad, pea pesto crostini, and chicken milanese. Sounds like quite the meal!
