In 1993, Matthew Perry approached NBC about a sitcom he had written called Maxwell House, about a group of 20 year olds. In a twist of fate, NBC turned him down, but because they already had a similar show in the works. That show would later be known as Friends.
Alternate Titles
Did you know that the show wasn’t originally titled Friends? Before the iconic name came to be, several different options were considered. These include: Insomnia Cafe, Once Upon a Time in the West Village, Six of One, Across the Hall, and Friends Like Us. We’re glad they chose the simple name in the end.
